POLA Museum of Art (Hakone)

The POLA Museum of Art, showcasing some 10,000 articles in a collection consisting of Western paintings and makeup instruments centered on a collection of international impressionist works, was designed under the theme of the symbiosis between Hakone's nature and art. The museum has earned high praise both within Japan and overseas.

Since its establishment in 1976, the POLA Research Institute of Beauty and Culture has engaged in a wide range of research activities involving cosmetics with a focus on cosmetics, women, and aesthetics. This research-including a study of both Eastern and Western cosmetic history and incorporating a look at the customs, views on beauty, and other era-specific ideas-aims to provide culturally valuable historical information.
